The FIX
How The FIX™* Works
The ankle strap is placed around the batter’s forward ankle (or back ankle depending upon the issue). The strap is then linked via a cable to a moveable weight on the side of home plate opposite the batter. As a pitched ball is coming through the strike zone, the batter’s reflex to draw the foot from the ball is overcome by the weight. With practice, this tool trains the batter to control the involuntary “flinch” reflex; therefore, improving swing consistency and batting confidence.
- One Size Fits All: The FIX™* fits male and female players of all sizes and ages.
- Mobile: The FIX™* comes in its own carrying case; take it with you anywhere!
- Easy to Use: Players can train on their own -- no need for assistance to use or set up.
Safety is always a concern – while the weight prevents the foot reflex, it does not prevent a player from ducking to avoid a ball outside of the strike zone.
Retrain with The FIX™* to Prevent and Overcome Bad Habits…
Bad Batting Habit Number One: Stepping Out or Stepping In the Bucket
- Batter will need to stand in regular position, ready to hit.
- Place bag on opposite side of plate and attach band to forward ankle.
- Practice swinging with tee or soft toss. If the batter is picking up and putting attached foot down correctly, he/she will feel no tension. However, this will not allow the batter to put his/her foot out and will remind him/her to only pick up front foot and put down while loading.
Bad Batting Habit Number Two: Opening Up
- Batter will need to stand in regular position, ready to hit.
- Place bag on opposite side of plate at the 4 to 5 o'clock position and attach band to forward ankle.
- Practice swinging with tee or soft toss. If the batter is opening up his/her shoulder, hip and knee on the foot attached to the FIX™, he/she will feel tension. If the batter is not opening up, he/she will feel no tension.
Bad Batting Habit Number Three: Overstriding – Stepping Forward and Putting Too Much Weight on Front Leg
- Batter will need to stand in regular position, then take a normal stride to get placement of the bag correct.
- Move bag to back of place, across from back foot and attach band to forward ankle.
- Practice swinging with tee or soft toss. If batter strides to normal foot placement, he/she will feel no tension. If the batter overstrides, the cord will become tight, and he/she will be reminded not to step forward.
Bad Batting Habit Number Four: Ballerina Stance – Standing on Tip Toes in the Box
- Batter will need to stand in regular position, ready to hit.
- Place bag behind back foot and attach band to front foot.
- Practice swinging with tee or soft toss. If batter puts his/her weight on the ball of front foot, all is well. However, if the batter tried to stand on tip toes, he/she will feel tension and will be reminded to put heel down.
Bad Batting Habit Number Five: Diving In – Front Foot Stepping Toward the Plate
- Batter will need to stand in regular position, ready to hit.
- Place bag directly behind batter's front leg and attach band to ankle.
- Practice swinging with tee or soft toss. If batter tries to step toward the plate, he/she will feel tension and be reminded to only pick up and put down front foot.
